There are three main theories explaining the role of kissing in human relationships:

Kissing is meant to maintain a relationship between each other.

Studies have shown that more importance is attached to kisses:

women. This is due to the fact that women are generally more picky than men, because they have to invest more effort and time in raising offspring. In addition, women are more likely to consider the option of a long-term relationship, and sometimes without even thinking about it. An interesting point: men claim that they kiss on average 10 times a day, and women - only 5 times. The study was about deep kisses, and scientists have not yet found a logical explanation for the data obtained;

more attractive people because they are generally more selective in relationships;

people who are in short-term relationships are also due to increased selectivity. Moreover, for this category of people, the most important are kisses before sexual intercourse, and during and after it, kisses do not play such an important role. For comparison: for partners who have a long-term relationship, kissing means a lot at any given time.

Kiss kiss apart. Recently, scientists reported that the displacement (rotation) of partners in the process of kissing depends on who is kissing and with whom. Parents kiss their children, shifting to the left, because during infancy they held them on their left hand and now habitually kiss them in the same angle. But romantic couples spin in the opposite direction - to the right. Studies have shown that at the same time there is increased activity of the area of the brain that is involved in the regulation of emotions (the anterior part of the cingulate gyrus on the left side), as well as in the caudate nucleus, necessary for motor control. Activity in the left hemisphere of the brain causes a loving kissing couple to turn to the right.
